Tolkien’s Transformative Women: Art in Triptych

For the first time, this book seeks to uncover the hidden voices of strong females from the past by utilizing the Medieval Triptych model to showcase Tolkien’s art. Tolkien created a vast community of powerful female figures that stem from powerful female characters that originated in Medieval, Norse, and Celtic traditions. By looking at Tolkien’s figures in tandem with the figures from the original manuscripts, it is evident that translation bias robbed these figures of their power; a power that in part re-emerges through Tolkien’s careful recreations.
